About Naxos
The island of Naxos is located in the very heart of the Aegean and it is the biggest Cycladic Island, linked to wonderful mythological stories and a rich history through out the centuries.
Naxos borders with many islands with a regular ferry connection. On its west there is Paros, north, Mykonos and Delos, South the Small Cyclades (Irakleia, Schoinousa, Keros, Koufonisia) and on the east, small islands such as Donousa and Strogyli.
One of Naxos’ characteristics is its unusually, for the region, fertile soil which, according to mythology has been blessed by God Dionysus himself. Since ancient times and up to today, the island’s vineyards have been producing remarkable wine, in addition to local products such as cheeses, fruit and meat that are well known for their quality and flavor.
Touring around the island can be a pleasant surprise for the traveler, as there is a wide selection of activities to offer all wants and needs. Sightseeing across archaeological sited and monuments, trekking throughout fertile valleys as well as the mountain of Zas, are just some of the areas that reveal the beauties of the naxian countryside.
Today Naxos combines the atmosphere of a modern tourist destination with cultural tradition and the colors of the Greek island. It has long sandy beaches with crystal blue waters and cedar trees while the unique winds that blow during July and August, called “meltemia” make Naxos the ideal place to be for surfing and water sports enthusiasts.
